Looking ahead

I have truly missed blogging lately.  Too much time spent trying to ‘do everything’, and not enough time spent on things I care about.  I even got out of the habit of weekly link ups, and they were the only thing keeping the blogging habit going for awhile!  So here I am, a day late but hopefully not a dollar short, with this week’s entry for:

I am the queen of procrastination.

I really am.

I am supposed to be studying for my Series 7.  I have the book on my lap, the STC website up on my browser, . . . and it’s taken me almost three hours (or more) to answer 50 questions because I just. don’t. want. to.

But my test is in ten days.

And I’m on chapter 11 of my review.

So I need to study.

But then I remembered tomorrow is Sunday, and I can do Sunday Social!  Early this time, instead of on Monday as I have been doing because I’ve been so swamped I can’t remember to do it on Sundays.

So here we go!

Fundamentals of life

Happy Sunday Social on Monday day!  Yes, I know, I’m late.  But I’m trying!  I spent yesterday driving 80 miles to take my 91 year old grandmother to lunch.  We had a nice visit, but I was so exhausted after church, driving, eating, visiting, driving, and regular Sunday dinner that I couldn’t do squat on the computer! 🙂

When I was a tween . . . .

Usually I try very hard to forget most of those years.  What I remember most is working hard, tons of homework, and hating life in general.  It wasn’t a good time for my family or for me.  Like REALLY not a good time for the family or for me.  I am just so thankful that I got through it.

Starting to feel like a fall social!

This week is the first time that I’ve woken up in the morning and felt that there was a bit of crispness in the air.  Fall is coming, people!  It may get up to over 90 degrees during the day, but the nights?  Well, the nights are glorious.  To celebrate, here is a bit of a fall social!

Sunday Social This Weeks Questions:

1. What is your favorite fall activity?
Oddly enough, pretty dang similar to one of my favorite summer activities.  Sitting in the hammock reading a book.  Only add an afghan and subtract a multitude of mosquitoes.  Continue reading

Holiday Sociable

I have started to answer the Sunday social I can’t tell you how many times–and I’ve not finished.  Either I lost wifi on the train, or I was working insane hours, or life just got in the way.  But I”m determined to try and keep up now!

Next Weeks Questions:

1. What was your favorite trip/vacation/activity this summer?
This summer was a blur of work and commitments.  VBS was awesome, but I’m going to cheat and go back to my birthday-and the birth day of my latest niece.

2. What was your favorite outfit look/clothing item of the summer?
Once we get to about 85 degrees outside, I switch from black pants everyday to a maxi skirt every day.

3. What is one thing you wish you’d gotten to do this summer?
This is the first year in I can’t remember how long that didn’t include a trip to a local theme park.  But I’m still a beach girl–I miss the waves and the sand.

4. What was your favorite song of the summer?
I got hooked on Kevin Max with Audio Adrenaline singing Kings and Queens.

5. What was your favorite movie/tv show of the summer?
It barely counts as summer, but for movie it would be star Trek: Into Darkness.  TV Show?  I have a harder time with that one because I love Summer TV: Royal Pains, Covert Affairs, Suits, and NEWSROOM!!!!!

When I was a kid I . . . .

You know, this time last week I thought I was going to be able to stay on track and keep up with link parties this week, especially since that’s the only blogging I’ve done for a few weeks.  Yet here we are, Sunday at 1115pm, and this is the first chance I’ve had to sit and blog since.  So, so much for staying on track.  Regardless, here’s this week’s entry:

Just the essentials

Every few years or so, you get the “if you were on a deserted island . . .” question going through a rotation.  That’s what this week’s Sunday Social reminded me of.  If you had to pick your favorites, and just your favorites, what would they be?

Stuck on repeat

Music is one of those things that has always been in my life.  I grew up with an uncle I adored who had awesome taste in music.  And I grew up in the 80s.  Need I say more?  Between his influence with the rock bands of the 70s, the cheesy pop of the 80s (yes, I had Duran Duran posters on my walls!), and the nostalgic resurgence of the 60s (they were next to my Beatles posters), it was an awesome time to grow up.

Then I went to college.

Yep, in college my music education kind of changed.  I lived on the same floor as the computer lab, which meant that no other radio signals would get through.  I had to survive off of the tapes that I already had and the headphones that kept the music from annoying my very sensitive roommate.  I got stuck in a musical time warp, so to speak.  Then there were the rest of the college years.  By the time I moved out of that hallway to the other side of campus, I was touring weekly with a show choir.  We love showtunes, don’t we?  So it became all I listened to.  For years.  Am listening to now, actually.  I found once I left school and had time to listen to public radio that, well, music sucked.  It was either insulting or degrading or simplistic lyrics, or I couldn’t understand the lyrics at all.  About ten years ago I started listening to Christian music again, because I can at least sing along.  So that’s the bulk of my iPod now–music from my teen years, contemporary Christian, and Showtunes.  There are some odd hits that make their way in, but all in all, an eclectic mix, no?
